Description

MB102 power module for breadboards 5V 3.3V 2.1x5.5mm USB connector

The MB102 / HW-131 power module is a robust and convenient power source for breadboards. It is an ideal solution for projects using microcontrollers-for Arduino, for Raspberry Pi, for ESP8266, and for ESP32. The device offers dual power rails with independent voltage selection for each rail. It features a practical master switch and an LED indicating operation. The module can be powered from a USB port or using a standard DC 2.1/5.5 mm barrel plug.

Key technical features

This power module has a well-thought-out design that fits standard breadboards. Pin headers on the bottom allow stable, secure mounting. Operating parameters are configured easily using built-in jumpers.

  • Output voltage: 5V, 3.3V, or OFF (selected independently for each rail)
  • Maximum current draw via USB: 500 mA
  • Maximum current draw from DC jack: 700 mA
  • Power connectors: DC 2.1/5.5 mm jack and USB connector
  • Indication and control: built-in LED indicating presence of voltage and a mechanical power switch

Benefits

Choosing a dedicated power module greatly streamlines building and testing new electronic circuits. It provides not only convenience but above all safety for connected components.

  • Time savings-quick installation directly on the breadboard without soldering or tangled wires
  • Circuit safety-stable 3.3V and 5V voltages protect sensitive microcontrollers and sensors from damage
  • Ease of use-built-in switch allows instant power cutoff without unplugging supply leads
  • Power flexibility-use a standard DC wall adapter or a regular USB cable connected to a computer
  • Versatility-option to set two different voltages at once (e.g. 3.3V on one side, 5V on the other) for mixed-voltage circuits

Example applications

Thanks to its versatile parameters, the MB102 module is widely used in the workshop of every electronics hobbyist, maker, and embedded systems programmer.

  • Powering prototype electronic circuits built on breadboards
  • IoT projects using wireless modules (for ESP8266, for ESP32) requiring stable 3.3V power
  • Powering sensors, displays, and actuator modules in embedded systems (for Arduino, for Raspberry Pi)
  • Testing and bringing up new electronic components before soldering them into the final PCB
  • Educational kits for learning electronics basics and microcontroller programming in schools and universities

Like it, Very useful for breadboard projects and eliminates the need for a wall adapter or standalone voltage regulators if a 5 volt power supply is needed for some chips/breakouts. Doesn't need smoothing capacitors on the voltage output either saving breadboard space.
