Description

ESP32-S3 UNO R3 N16R8 U.FL Module

An innovative development board combining the classic Arduino UNO form factor with the high computing power of the dual-core ESP32-S3-N16R8 chip. It is a high-performance solution for projects requiring Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, large memory, and compatibility with the rich ecosystem of UNO standard shields. The board is an excellent foundation for ESP32 and Arduino projects.

Key Technical Features

  • Microcontroller: ESP32-S3 (Dual-core Xtensa 32-bit LX7)
  • Memory: 16MB Flash / 8MB PSRAM (N16R8)
  • Wireless connectivity: Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth 5 (LE)
  • Antenna connector: U.FL (IPEX) for an external antenna and built-in PCB antenna
  • Input voltage (DC): 5V (DC Jack socket and USB-C port)
  • Logic operating voltage: 3.3V (logic level converters required when working with 5V modules)
  • Pinout standard: UNO R3 compatible (Power, Analog, Digital, PWM, SPI, I2C)
  • USB-UART converter: CH340C
  • AI support: Hardware instructions accelerating neural network computations

Example Applications

  • Advanced home automation (IoT) systems with extended graphical interfaces.
  • Wi-Fi/Bluetooth gateways with extended communication range.
  • Prototyping devices using machine learning (AI at the edge).
  • Education and learning ESP32 programming in the UNO standard.
  • Weather stations and data loggers requiring large operational memory.
  • Web servers and embedded databases running directly on the microcontroller.

Benefits

  • Easy project migration: Ability to use existing UNO standard shields.
  • High performance: Dual-core processor and large amount of memory enable handling of complex algorithms.
  • Extended range: U.FL connector allows connecting an external antenna, improving wireless connection stability.
  • Modern power supply: USB-C port makes programming and powering the module easier.
  • Rapid prototyping: Compatibility with Arduino IDE and popular libraries.

Pinout Description

  • DIGITAL (Digital inputs/outputs with PWM support): IO9, IO8, IO12, IO13, IO11, IO10, IO35, IO36, IO37, IO38, IO14, IO39, IO3, IO40, IO41, IO19/IO20, IO42, IO17, IO18, TXD, RXD
  • ANALOG (Analog inputs connected to the ADC converter): IO2, IO1, IO7, IO6, IO5
  • POWER section: Power outputs VN, IO0, 5V, 3.3V and ground pins (GND).
  • Communication interfaces: Dedicated SPI and I2C bus pins.

Important Technical Note

Despite the UNO-compatible form factor, the ESP32-S3 microcontroller operates at 3.3V logic levels. Connecting 5V signals directly to GPIO pins may permanently damage the module. When working with modules operating at 5V, the use of logic level converters is recommended.

Installation and First Startup

The module uses a CH340C converter chip for communication with a computer. Connection via a USB-C cable with data transfer support is required. If the device is not automatically detected in Windows, install drivers for the CH340 chip. In Arduino IDE, configure the board as ESP32-S3 Dev Module.
