Description
AS5600 12-bit I2C PWM Magnetic Encoder with Magnet
The AS5600 module is an advanced, non-contact sensor that functions as both a magnetic encoder and a digital magnetometer. The device enables precise measurement of the angle of rotation with a high 12-bit resolution, which translates to 4,096 positions per full rotation. By detecting changes in the magnetic field, the sensor reads the position and direction of rotation with high accuracy, eliminating the problem of mechanical wear. The kit includes a dedicated magnet that simply needs to be attached to the rotating component.
The module is fully compatible with popular microcontroller platforms. It is ideal as an expansion module for Arduino, ESP32, ESP8266, and Raspberry Pi. Communication takes place via the standard I2C bus or through a PWM output, providing great flexibility in designing control systems.
Key Technical Features
- Sensor model: AS5600
- Supply voltage: 3.3 V
- Communication interfaces: I2C and PWM
- Measurement resolution: 12-bit (4,096 steps per revolution)
- Measurement range: 0° to 360° (programmable from 18° to 360°)
- Recognized rotation directions: clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW)
- Module dimensions: 23 x 23 mm
- Weight: 2.2 g
- Recommended distance between the sensor and the magnet: 0.5–3 mm (depending on the size of the magnet)
- Maximum allowable offset of the magnet’s rotation axis relative to the center of the sensor: 0.25 mm (for a magnet with a diameter of 6 mm)
Benefits of using the module
- No mechanical wear—the non-contact measurement method ensures a long service life and reliability without placing any load on the mechanism being tested.
- High precision—12-bit resolution allows for accurate positioning and detection of even the slightest changes in rotation angle.
- Configuration flexibility—the programmable measurement range allows the sensor to be adapted to specific hardware requirements.
- Easy integration—support for two popular communication standards simplifies connection to most logic systems.
- Compact dimensions—the small size of the board allows for installation in devices with very limited space.
