Description

HC-12 SI4438 433MHz Radio Module Transceiver + Antenna

Compact transceiver-type radio module - transmits and receives data on a single board. The device operates on the popular frequency band of 433 MHz and is powered by DC voltage in the range from 3 V to 5 V. At the heart of the circuit is the STM8S003F3P6 supporting the serial port and a high-quality radio chip from the SI44xx family, which together guarantee stable transmission. The module is fully adapted to work with the most popular development platforms: ESP8266, ESP32, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi.

Configuration and data exchange with the host controller is done via the standard UART interface, using the TX and RX pins. To ensure the best possible range, the PCB is equipped with a miniature u.FL antenna socket, as well as a dedicated solder pad that allows direct mounting of the included spring antenna.

Key Technical Features

This hardware stands out with a well-thought-out design and optimal parameters that enable long-distance connections. Below is a summary of the most important technical specifications of the device:

  • Supply voltage: from 3 V to 5 V
  • Radio chip: Si4438 (SI44xx family, Silicon Labs)
  • Microcontroller: STM8S003F3P6 - UART support, AT commands, operating modes
  • Operating frequency: 433.4 - 473.0 MHz, 100 channels every 400 kHz
  • Circuit type: transceiver (transmitter / receiver)
  • Maximum output power: up to 100 mW (20 dBm)
  • Communication interface: UART (TX, RX lines)
  • Available antenna connectors: u.FL socket and pad for soldering the antenna (included)
  • Declared transmission range: from 600 m to 1000 m (in open space)
  • Physical board dimensions: 27.4 mm x 13.3 mm x 2.3 mm

Benefits of Using the Module

Implementing a radio module in electronic systems brings tangible benefits, especially in applications requiring wireless transmission over considerable distances. Using a dedicated hardware transceiver significantly offloads the main microcontroller.

  • Very long communication range - a stable radio connection over a distance of up to 1000 m in open terrain allows the construction of extensive sensor networks.
  • Broad compatibility - seamless integration and stable operation of the module when connected to Arduino, ESP8266, ESP32, or Raspberry Pi.
  • Ease of implementation - using the standard UART protocol makes data exchange highly intuitive and allows easy handling of AT commands.
  • Voltage flexibility - a wide input voltage range makes it easy to power the device directly from popular circuits operating at 3.3 V or 5 V logic levels.
  • Antenna selection versatility - the u.FL socket allows connection of external, more powerful directional antennas, while the spring antenna keeps mounting dimensions to a minimum.

Example Applications

Thanks to high reliability and optimal power management, the transceiver will successfully serve both commercial and research projects. The most common deployments in electronics include automation and telemetry systems.

  • Measurement nodes and wireless sensor networks transmitting climate data over long distances.
  • Industrial telemetry applications, including remote parameter readout and machine operation monitoring.
  • Smart building infrastructure implemented in facilities where running new cable routes is not possible.
  • Remote control systems for mobile robots, bait boats, and RC vehicles.
  • Independent alarm systems and radio notification modules in access control systems.
  • Prototyping of communication hardware in advanced educational systems.
