Description
OpenLog TF card data logger module
The OpenLog module is a compact and highly practical data logger that records information sent over the UART (TTL) interface directly to a TF (microSD) card. Thanks to the built-in firmware, the device takes over full file system handling, which significantly offloads the main microcontroller in the project. The onboard ATmega328 microcontroller automatically creates and writes text files that can then be easily read on any computer.
Due to the wide accepted voltage range, the logger can be easily integrated with many development platforms. It is perfectly suited for use with Arduino, ESP8266, ESP32, Raspberry Pi ecosystems, as well as STM32 and Raspberry Pi Pico.
Key technical features
- Built-in microcontroller: ATmega328P
- Communication interface: UART (TTL)
- Supply voltage and logic levels: 3.3 V - 5 V
- Baud rate: default 9600 bps (configurable)
- Supported media type: TF (microSD) cards
- Supported file system: FAT16 and FAT32
- Physical dimensions: 20 mm x 16 mm
Benefits
Using a dedicated logging module saves computing resources and the time that would otherwise be spent implementing libraries for memory card handling.
- Significant offloading of the main processor in the project thanks to a dedicated ATmega328 chip handling disk operations.
- Reliable operation with circuits powered by 3.3 V and 5 V without the need for external logic level converters.
- Easy reading of collected logs - data is stored in a widely used standard on a removable medium.
- Ready to work with popular Arduino, ESP8266, ESP32, Raspberry Pi modules.
Example applications
Compact dimensions and an asynchronous serial interface make this logger a highly versatile module for measurement and diagnostic applications.
- Archiving readings from environmental sensors (temperature, humidity, air quality) in automation and IoT systems.
- Recording telemetry parameters in vehicles, drones, and mobile robots as a local black box.
- Long-term logging of error codes and operating statuses at remote, battery-powered measurement stations.
- Recording power parameters and energy consumption in home photovoltaic installations.
- Periodic recording of coordinates from GPS receivers to create a history of traveled routes.
